Join the Ward 2 Democrats for our November Happy Hour! Come out Thursday, November 20, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Barrel House Cafe & Bar to mix, mingle, and connect with neighbors, advocates, and community leaders from across Ward 2. Representatives from FreeDC will join us to share updates on their ongoing work in the Ward and how we can get involved in advancing local empowerment and representation.

Right now, members of Congress are pushing 13 bills that would strip away the District’s right to self-governance. These bills would let politicians from outside DC decide how we run our schools, courts, policing, housing, and even who represents us in government.

As you know from news reports, District of Columbia Attorney General Brian Schwalb filed a lawsuit the morning of Friday, August 15, to stop the federal government takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department. Lawyers for the District of Columbia and the federal government went before a federal judge later that afternoon. As a result of the District's efforts, command and control of the Metropolitan Police Department remains with Chief Pamela Smith (click to watch NBC Washington's overview).
