Congressional Republicans have once again taken aim at DC’s autonomy, introducing a Continuing Resolution (CR) that excludes a long-standing provision allowing the District to manage its own, locally funded budget. For more than two decades, this provision has been included without issue. Stripping it now overturns DC’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget, forcing the city to revert to outdated funding levels and creating a crisis that disrupts essential services our residents rely on.

With the dawn of a new day, unfortunately the presidential election was not decided in favor of Democrats. While the result is disheartening we must dust ourselves off, reassess and move forward.

June is an important month for Ward 2! We celebrate Pride Month, the Capital Pride Parade makes its way across the Ward this Saturday, June 8 and THIS Tuesday, June 4 is the Democratic Primary Election!

As we acknowledge Emancipation Day today, we must remind ourselves that we are heading into what is probably the most consequential presidential election cycle in the last 30 years. Our civil and personal liberties, even the very history of this nation, is at risk. We are the only ones that can do anything about it.

In lieu of our May General Meeting, join the Ward 2 Democrats, Ward 6 Democrats, DC Young Democrats, DC Democratic Party, the Hill Rag and the Hill Center for the DC Council Chair Candidates Forum. Monday, May 16 at 7:00 PM at the Hill Center (921 Pennsylvania Avenue SE). The event will also be streamed online.

On Monday, April 18, at 6:30 PM we welcome Captain Ryan Small of the Metropolitan Police Department for a public safety conversation.

The first meeting for Ward 2 takes place this Sunday, January 16, at 2:00 PM and is open to the public.
