As we acknowledge Emancipation Day today, we must remind ourselves that we are heading into what is probably the most consequential presidential election cycle in the last 30 years. Our civil and personal liberties, even the very history of this nation, is at risk. We are the only ones that can do anything about it.

Today we mark the one year anniversary of The Insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Like many of you, I spent the day replaying events in my mind. As residents of the nation’s capital we have a front row seat to some of the most important events in our history, both good and bad.
